Ghost Receipts

Ghost Receipts

The paycheck arrives with other people's names already written on it.

Rent takes its share. The subscriptions collect theirs. At the supermarket, you put something back and pretend you were reconsidering dinner. Your phone reminds you that a service you barely remember joining has renewed successfully.

At work, there is a meeting about wellbeing. You attend it during the time you meant to take for lunch.

Static Rage knows how this conversation goes. Someone starts complaining, someone makes a joke, and suddenly everyone has a story. The call that kept transferring them. The vacation days they earned and never dared to use. The raise that looked promising until they did the arithmetic.

One of them laughs too loudly. Another insists he is doing fine. A third has stopped finding it funny. The quiet one remembers exactly what everyone said before they changed the subject.

By the end of the night, the complaints have found a beat. People who arrived with separate problems are shouting the same chorus.

The charges do not stop. Even the final exit seems to require a survey.

Somewhere, there should be a receipt for all this: the hours, the deferred plans, the things paid for that never became yours.

The songs in this world live where you do. They breathe the same air, hear the same news, and carry the same pressures, hopes, and ambitions that follow you through an ordinary day.

About this song

How many dreams are waiting for "someday"?

"Unused Vacation Days" is a quiet, bittersweet reflection on postponed living. Built on soft piano, restrained drums, and deeply human storytelling, the song follows ordinary people who kept saving life for a better time — a future that always seemed just one more month away.

The beach trip never happened.

The train ticket stayed in the drawer.

The days kept accumulating.

And then one day, there was no time left to spend them.

Unlike the anger and satire found throughout much of the Ghost Receipts project, this track turns inward, exploring regret, postponed happiness, and the hidden cost of always waiting for the right moment.

Some debts are measured in money.

Others are measured in years.

Four voices, four ways of handling the same pressure: swagger, laughter, resolve, and the thought nobody wanted to say aloud. Static Rage turns their friction into hip-hop with a sharp tongue and a bruised human center

Lyrics

[Intro]
Attention please.
Your remaining vacation days
will expire at the end of the year.
Thank you.

[Verse 1]
He kept a photograph
Of a beach he'd never seen
Blue water
White sand
A place from a magazine
He said
"Maybe next summer"
Then the roof needed fixing
Then the car broke down
Then the prices started climbing
He worked through the winters
Worked through the flu
Worked through birthdays
Worked through grief too
Every year he carried forward
What he never used

[Pre-Chorus]
Tomorrow looked so close
From far away

[Chorus]
Unused vacation days
Stacked up like dust
I was saving life
For a better month
Unused vacation days
A drawer full of plans
I thought time was waiting
Time had other plans

[Verse 2]
She had tickets
For a train ride north
Still folded in an envelope
Inside the bottom drawer
A little café
Near a mountain lake
A dream so small
You'd think it couldn't break
But one more deadline
One more promotion
One more year
Of forward motion
And somehow
The future kept moving too

[Pre-Chorus]
Tomorrow looked so close
From far away

[Chorus]
Unused vacation days
Stacked up like dust
I was saving life
For a better month
Unused vacation days
A drawer full of plans
I thought time was waiting
Time had other plans

[Bridge]
The funny thing is
Nobody stole them
Nobody took the days away
They were all mine
Every single one
I just kept spending them
On someday

[Final Chorus]
Unused vacation days
Still sitting there
The beach is still blue
The train still runs somewhere
Unused vacation days
A life behind glass
I thought I had forever
Forever moved too fast

[Outro]
Your remaining balance:
Three hundred twenty-seven days.
Non-refundable.
Non-transferable.
Expired.

A body needs care; a wallet cannot bear it. Static Rage sets the fear of medical debt against weary humor and a chorus that makes every breath sound billable.
