Tales from Krakon

Story

A captain takes a contract, and a small ship leaves everything familiar behind. Somewhere along its route, a settlement is living by rules the crew has never encountered. Another vessel lies silent with something still running inside. At the next port, a stranger may be looking for passage—or offering a reason to change direction entirely.

Sometimes you take a job because it is the only one available. You may never learn to love it, but leaving is something you cannot afford. Across Krakon, some people take the opportunity within reach. Others have no say in where they find themselves.

Above an unfamiliar planet, the crew waits for the captain to finish the calculations. Will there be a landing? Who will go?

Some hope never to hear their names. Others have spent so long inside the ship that almost any patch of solid ground would feel like a gift, provided the reports look safe enough. A few are eager even when they do not. There are crew members kept in storage specifically for dangerous assignments, ready to be awakened when those moments come.

But sometimes the captain's calculations favor someone else.

The descent may begin inside a cramped capsule, with barely enough room to bend your knees. Returning will require another decision, another expense, and someone above who still considers the journey worthwhile. Surviving the landing does not guarantee a place on the ship again.

You might even be left free—on a world where nobody would choose to spend that freedom.

Elsewhere, someone has a comfortable life aboard a station: a small business, familiar neighbors, and a lover with whom life fits together like the two halves of a seed. There are obligations, but also pleasures, plans, and reasons to be content.

Still, a rumor about somewhere far away refuses to leave them alone. They call it an opportunity to make their fortune. Perhaps that is part of the truth.

One half of the seed leaves for the unknown. The other waits, like a flower losing its petals.

On another world, a hero gives his life to protect his people—and discovers that he has done so before. A poem written for his beloved in his first life survives to reveal what he cannot remember.

Who stole my eternity

to give me another life to bleed through?

How many stars have they bought

with the stories of my sacrifice?

He believed the monsters were invading his home. Now he has reason to believe that neither he nor the monsters belonged there.

When he resists, the people he once defended are sent to destroy him.

Every song begins with a story.

About this song

Nera Voss explores an abandoned station through the ordinary traces of its former inhabitants: an arcade score, a little shoe, a study corner, and lights nobody remains to switch off.

Her restrained ambient-pop voice gives those objects time to be noticed. The apparent haunting becomes a way of hearing affection in a place others approach with fear. The song's repeated machinery and quiet echoes hold warmth inside the wreck without needing to resolve whether its ghosts are literal.

An existential ambient future-funk piece with a haunted station-lounge feel, slow at around 82 BPM — warm ghosts trapped inside cold metal forever, carried by dated synths and a storytelling delivery.

Lore

Nera Voss visits the wreckage of ghosts, at a time when people use this material as a source of horror and fear. She sees beyond fear a world kept warm by memories despite the coldness of space, a world that continues to live within an infinite time loop, keeping the coldness of space and fools away from it.

Nera Voss sings the intimate life of Krakon's docks and quiet rooms, where memories linger and the warmth beside you can rival anything beyond the stars.

Lyrics

[INTRO]
…power still running…
…nobody left to turn it off…

[VERSE 1]
Hallway lights
still blink in waves
soft blue static
through empty space

Old arcade screens
flicker and hum
tiny spaceships
still trying to run

One machine loops
the same high score
from someone
who won't come anymore

I touch the buttons
dust lifts slow
like small dead stars
inside the glow

[PRE-CHORUS]
And maybe ghosts
aren't people at all

Maybe they're just
warm moments
that never learned
how to leave the walls

[CHORUS]
Ghost wreck…
drifting through time
holding old laughter
inside broken lights

Ghost wreck…
cold metal skin
still softly dreaming
about who lived in it

[VERSE 2]
Carousel horses
turn halfway still
frozen smiling
above the hill

Paint cracked open
eyes worn thin
yet somehow kind
beneath the dim

The old clown statue
near the gate
looks frightening now
through rust and age

But standing close
under soft red glow
he feels less evil
than lonely and old

[GLITCH BREAK]
A little shoe
beneath a chair
tiny fingerprints
still resting there

Someone studied here
late every night
headphones glowing
under neon light

Someone fell asleep
beside that wall
dreaming tomorrow
would always come

[VERSE 3]
Food court gardens
plastic trees
broken speakers
whispering gently

Prize tickets drifting
through ventilation air
like memories
too light to disappear

I keep hearing footsteps
around ring two
not chasing me…
just passing through

And every empty place here
feels strangely full
like the station remembers
more love than people do

[FINAL CHORUS]
Ghost wreck…
still glowing low
holding small lives
inside endless snow

Ghost wreck…
silent and vast
where warm little humans
somehow managed to last

Ghost wreck…
old songs remain
floating forever
through rust and rain

And somewhere deep
inside the dark
a child still runs
through the arcade sparks

[OUTRO]
…please insert coin…
…welcome back…
