Tales from Krakon

Story

A captain takes a contract, and a small ship leaves everything familiar behind. Somewhere along its route, a settlement is living by rules the crew has never encountered. Another vessel lies silent with something still running inside. At the next port, a stranger may be looking for passage—or offering a reason to change direction entirely.

Sometimes you take a job because it is the only one available. You may never learn to love it, but leaving is something you cannot afford. Across Krakon, some people take the opportunity within reach. Others have no say in where they find themselves.

Above an unfamiliar planet, the crew waits for the captain to finish the calculations. Will there be a landing? Who will go?

Some hope never to hear their names. Others have spent so long inside the ship that almost any patch of solid ground would feel like a gift, provided the reports look safe enough. A few are eager even when they do not. There are crew members kept in storage specifically for dangerous assignments, ready to be awakened when those moments come.

But sometimes the captain's calculations favor someone else.

The descent may begin inside a cramped capsule, with barely enough room to bend your knees. Returning will require another decision, another expense, and someone above who still considers the journey worthwhile. Surviving the landing does not guarantee a place on the ship again.

You might even be left free—on a world where nobody would choose to spend that freedom.

Elsewhere, someone has a comfortable life aboard a station: a small business, familiar neighbors, and a lover with whom life fits together like the two halves of a seed. There are obligations, but also pleasures, plans, and reasons to be content.

Still, a rumor about somewhere far away refuses to leave them alone. They call it an opportunity to make their fortune. Perhaps that is part of the truth.

One half of the seed leaves for the unknown. The other waits, like a flower losing its petals.

On another world, a hero gives his life to protect his people—and discovers that he has done so before. A poem written for his beloved in his first life survives to reveal what he cannot remember.

Who stole my eternity

to give me another life to bleed through?

How many stars have they bought

with the stories of my sacrifice?

He believed the monsters were invading his home. Now he has reason to believe that neither he nor the monsters belonged there.

When he resists, the people he once defended are sent to destroy him.

Every song begins with a story.

Krakon Planet

Near a black hole, fortunes grow. Across Krakon space, trillions build comfortable lives while millions chase treasure, distant worlds, and a story worth leaving behind.

Two Years of Light — Lore Fragment

In Krakon space, not every manufactured life came from suffering.

Some were designed beautifully.

A full commercial brand of life companions was created using accelerated biological growth technologies and dream programming, and carefully curated emotional development. They were not machines, but real human beings grown inside artificial womb systems and shaped through compressed lives of simulated memory.

Affordable.

Gentle.

Emotionally warm.

Created to soften the psychological weight of deep-space life.

Their shorter lifespans were considered an acceptable tradeoff for lower production cost, making them common across cargo vessels, mining stations, transport hubs, and long-range civilian crews.

She was one of those companions.

Not rare.

Not prestigious.

Not expected to matter for very long.

But something inside her refused to become disposable.

She noticed beauty too easily. Small colors. Quiet moments. Shared silence between exhausted people drifting through the dark. While others treated life like a transaction, she experienced even temporary existence as something sacred.

And perhaps that was the real flaw in her design:

She understood the value of living despite knowing exactly how little time she had.

To most people in Krakon space, she was simply another brief light passing through the corridors.

But somewhere later, aboard another drifting ship, someone would realize too late that her warmth had changed the atmosphere around everyone who knew her.

That memory echoes softly through:

Emma, Stay

About this song

Mira Velle gives voice to a biologically grown human companion whose brief lifespan is treated as an economic convenience in Krakon space. The song stays inside her experience: the attraction of a color, the pleasure of a breath, and the wish to own even one unpriced moment.

Its gentle ambient-pop setting makes her wonder audible before the surrounding world's cruelty. She understands that her time is short; what she refuses is the idea that this makes it worthless. The companion story echoes into "Emma, Stay," where another voice measures the warmth such a life leaves behind.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I woke inside a glassy room
They said my name was just a code
I count the colors on the wall
Because they glow… and time feels slow

I like the way the red one burns
They told me red is danger here
But danger shines so beautifully
I forget what I should fear

[Pre-Chorus]
They say I'm cheap
They say I'm small
But when I breathe
The stars feel close

[Chorus]
My eyes are light
They still don't know
I'm worth the time
I get to hold

If I'm made to fade
Before I grow
Then let this second
Be my own

[Verse 2]
They look at me like simple meat
A soft thing built to disappear
But when the world stops just for me
I feel… like I belong right here

I don't need forever days
Two years is long when time is kind
The moment shines, it doesn't ask
If it will be the last

[Pre-Chorus]
They trade my breath
They trade my skin
But I still see
How bright this is

[Chorus]
My eyes are light
They still don't know
I'm worth the time
I get to hold

If I'm made to fade
Before I grow
Then let this second
Be my own

[Bridge]
If death is close
It doesn't scare me
I was never built for more

But don't look away
When I'm smiling
This is what I'm dying for

[Final Chorus]
My eyes are light
Like shattered stone
They shine for me
Not for your gold

If I was born
To be consumed
I'll burn as color
Not as fuel

[Outro]
I stop…
And time stops too.
