Story

A captain takes a contract, and a small ship leaves everything familiar behind. Somewhere along its route, a settlement is living by rules the crew has never encountered. Another vessel lies silent with something still running inside. At the next port, a stranger may be looking for passage—or offering a reason to change direction entirely.

Sometimes you take a job because it is the only one available. You may never learn to love it, but leaving is something you cannot afford. Across Krakon, some people take the opportunity within reach. Others have no say in where they find themselves.

Above an unfamiliar planet, the crew waits for the captain to finish the calculations. Will there be a landing? Who will go?

Some hope never to hear their names. Others have spent so long inside the ship that almost any patch of solid ground would feel like a gift, provided the reports look safe enough. A few are eager even when they do not. There are crew members kept in storage specifically for dangerous assignments, ready to be awakened when those moments come.

But sometimes the captain's calculations favor someone else.

The descent may begin inside a cramped capsule, with barely enough room to bend your knees. Returning will require another decision, another expense, and someone above who still considers the journey worthwhile. Surviving the landing does not guarantee a place on the ship again.

You might even be left free—on a world where nobody would choose to spend that freedom.

Elsewhere, someone has a comfortable life aboard a station: a small business, familiar neighbors, and a lover with whom life fits together like the two halves of a seed. There are obligations, but also pleasures, plans, and reasons to be content.

Still, a rumor about somewhere far away refuses to leave them alone. They call it an opportunity to make their fortune. Perhaps that is part of the truth.

One half of the seed leaves for the unknown. The other waits, like a flower losing its petals.

On another world, a hero gives his life to protect his people—and discovers that he has done so before. A poem written for his beloved in his first life survives to reveal what he cannot remember.

Who stole my eternity

to give me another life to bleed through?

How many stars have they bought

with the stories of my sacrifice?

He believed the monsters were invading his home. Now he has reason to believe that neither he nor the monsters belonged there.

When he resists, the people he once defended are sent to destroy him.

Every song begins with a story.

Krakon Planet

Near a black hole, fortunes grow. Across Krakon space, trillions build comfortable lives while millions chase treasure, distant worlds, and a story worth leaving behind.

In one of Krakon's stories, men from a world of castles, markets and local legends accept dangerous work in exchange for wealth for their families and years in a paradise of their choosing. Their former households receive enough gold to support a lifetime, but contact ends when the men leave.

For the returned adventurer, the reward becomes thirty experienced years of love and family life. Athena is his wife in that paradise. When he learns that the world holding those years is a simulation, he cannot bear to remain. A companion understands the same truth differently and chooses to stay with the life that satisfies him.

The adventurer returns after five years away. His first family has continued living in his absence; financial security has not preserved his old place among them. Another five years pass before the companion's son finds him and hears his account. The song belongs to the returned man's grief, not to a judgment that his family was cruel or that his companion chose wrongly.

He remembers Athena's warmth even after calling her world false. The garden remains with him after he has left it. His description of an empty life expresses the cost he feels in that moment; it does not erase the reality of either life he has known.

About this song

Moraen performs the voice of a returned adventurer in Tales of Krakon. He once believed that leaving a dream would restore the life he had lost. Back among familiar doors and unfamiliar silences, he finds that waking has not brought him home.

The song speaks through brief images that gather like remembered sayings: a shore that no longer belongs to the traveler, a fire whose warmth does not promise a place, a broken mirror that wounds the hand. Athena's name interrupts those images with the presence of someone he loved. His thirty golden years become a recurring lament, held in the melody rather than explained in a chronology.

A warm, intimate male lead and spacious violin ensemble frame the intended arrangement, with delicate acoustic guitar and room for sustained vowels. The refrain returns with the same words and a deepening ache. The song leaves its central question with the listener: what did he recover by waking, and what did he abandon?

A warm voice for the seeker and the wounded traveler. Moraen follows love, doubt and the questions that remain when a promised paradise has answered every wish.

Lyrics

[Opening]
I left the garden.
I lost my Athena.
My thirty golden years — gone away.

[Verse 1]
I crossed the water.
My shadow came with me.
The shore I called my own — not for me.

I found the doorway.
The fire was still burning.
A house can hold its warmth — not your place.

[Refrain]
I had a golden world.
I had your wondrous love.
My thirty golden years — gone away.

I left the garden.
I lost my Athena.
My thirty golden years — gone away.

[Verse 2]
I broke the mirror.
The dream didn't shatter.
The hand that broke the glass — bears the scar.

I left the roses.
Their thorns travelled with me.
The bloom was left behind — not the pain.

[Refrain]
I had a golden world.
I had your wondrous love.
My thirty golden years — gone away.

I left the garden.
I lost my Athena.
My thirty golden years — gone away.

[Bridge]
What good is waking up
If love is left asleep?
What good are open eyes
With nothing left to keep?

A crown can turn to dust.
A touch can outlive gold.
I called our heaven false…
But still, your hands were warm.

[Break]
Athena…
I never said goodbye.

[Final refrain]
I had a golden world.
I had your wondrous love.
My thirty golden years — gone away.

I left the garden.
I lost my Athena.
My thirty golden years — gone away.

[Closing phrase]
I sold my soul
For an empty life.

[Outro]
I left the garden.
The garden stayed in me.

Athena…
I never said goodbye.
